Vanessa directly supervises both The Edinburgh Bookshop and The Children’s Bookshop, as well as Fidra Books. She liaises with publishing companies and authors, and does the dreaded VAT return. She also writes regularly (ish) on the Fidra Blog about books, bookselling and life as an independent publisher.

Malcolm is our technical whizz. He builds and looks after our website; oversees the production of our books and makes the numbers add up. Formerly a university physicist, Malcolm’s also in charge of selecting the academic stock for the shop.

Cat is our children’s bookseller and comes to us as a former Borders Books children’s specialist. Committed to reading children’s books for the rest of her life, she loves reading stories out loud to anyone who will listen.

Polly our part-time bookseller and a huge fan of the work of children’s illustrators and Becky, who usually works as a publisher with Fidra Books but can often be found in the bookshop, can be guaranteed to find the right book for every customer. You might also see Magnus (age 10) and Teaga (our Leonberger mountain dog) who’s a 8 stone ball of fur and has many followers on Twitter.
