Sorytelling with Mairi Hedderwick
Mairi Hedderwick is the author and illustrator of the much loved Katie Morag series, the Utterly Otterleys and many other well-loved children's books. Although she was born in Gourock, and attended the Edinburgh College of Art, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland have always been Mairi Hedderwick's true home. Mairi’s island world is delightfully reflected in the imaginary island of Struay where Katie Morag and her family live.
Come along to The Christ Church Centre, opposite The Children's Bookshop, and listen to Mairi read, chat to her about your favourite Katie Morag story, before Mairi signs a copy of your favourite book.
Ticket's are £3 per child, redeemable against a book on the day.

Pictures Of Your Imagination
For a long time we have been passionate about beautifully illustrated picture books and during July and August 2009 we are opening a gallery to sell original and limited edition illustration art. The Fidra Gallery will open at 181 Bruntsfield Place, from Saturday 11th July until Saturday 29th August, 2009. Opening hours are 10.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday and 12 noon to 4.30pm on Sunday.
We have an exciting array of work for sale, so come along and see artwork from some of your favourite illustrated books.

The Graveyard Book
So far, the (now very well-read) proof copy of Neil Gaiman's new book, The Graveyard Book, has been our favourite book of 2008 and we are delighted to be able to invite you to join us for an evening with Neil Gaiman at the Church Hill Theatre, Edinburgh on the 28th October at 7pm to celebrate the launch of The Graveyard Book.
Neil will be reading from the book and talking about it and his other writing, followed by a Question and Answer session. Finally, Neil will sign copies of The Graveyard Book.
Tickets are £5 with £5 off The Graveyard Book on the night, and are available from The Children's Bookshop, 219 Bruntsfield Place; call into the shop or phone us on 0131 447 1917 if you'd like to reserve tickets and order by post.

Acclaimed writer Steve Augarde, mostly recently the creator of The Various trilogy and author of many other children's books, will be here to talk about the joys and problems of writing for children and to give plenty of practical advice on how to get your work in front of agents and publishers. He'll also be taking questions and signing copies of The Various series, including the recently published final part; Winter Wood.
